Teaching Pulse Naturally
Daniel Schmit, Master of Music student in Piano Pedagogy at the Michigan State University College of Music, presents ways to reinforce the concept of pulse in a student's playing.
Cool ideas in these videos! Good job, and thanks for posting these.
An alternative to tapping on the student's shoulder is to tap them on the back between the shoulder blades. This allows the student to (hopefully) feel the beat more internally, like a heartbeat (as I commonly refer to the beat with my young students), rather than on the shoulder, which somehow feels more external to me.
